Notre Dame Cathedral of Saigon, officially the Basilica of the court of Mary Immaculate (Immaculate Conception Cathedral Basilica), the largest church in the city and most unusual, with two 60 m high bell tower, located in the city center (of a Paris Commune, District 1). An exhibition highlighting the relationship between Vietnam and India opened in Hanoi on August 10.

Co-organised by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MCST) and the Indian Embassy, the event marks the 40th anniversary of full diplomatic ties and five years of strategic partnership between the two countries.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Ho Anh Tuan said that nearly 200 photos, documents and exhibits on display depict the time-honoured and cordial relations forged by President Ho Chi Minh and Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru and nurtured by generations of leaders and peoples of the two nations.

The Hanoi Gift Show 2012 for handicrafts, home décor products and furniture will be held at the Vietnam Exhibition and Fair Centre from October 26-30.

The show, the first of its kind, aims to promote Vietnamese exports and attract customers from developed countries such as the
US, the EU, Japan, Australia and Russia.

The professional trade fair will include 550 stalls showcasing goods from 250 businesses. 

 

A cultural, sports and tourism exchange programme between Vietnamese and Lao border provinces will take place from August 16 in Vietnam’s central provinces of Nghe An, Quang Binh and Ha Tinh and Laos’ Xiengkhoang, Bolykhamsay and Khammouan provinces.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism announced the event at a press conference in Hanoi on August 9.
According to the organising board, the activity aims to strengthen solidarity and friendship between the Vietnamese and Lao people, especially those living in border areas.
A series of activities will be held during the event, including an exhibition on the cultural colours of border ethnic groups, art performances and a show of traditional costumes of ethnic groups


The city of Nha Trang is becoming more popular with the tourists in recent years. Yet, with a population of 300,000, Nha Trang still retains its small town atmosphere. This resort town is well known for its miles of beach and the friendliness of its people. The city is flanked by nearly ten kilometers of prime beach where the water is warm year round. The average temperature in Nha Trang is 26 C. Nha Trang also has the lowest level of humidity in all of Vietnam. Today, Nha Trang ranks among the top of all beaches in Vietnam. Nha Trang is 1,287 km south of Hanoi, 624 km south of Hue and 442 km from Ho Chi Minh city (Saigon). Nha Trang has several famous islands. Halong Bay has been ranked as one of the 150 most beautiful natural wonders in the world by the French leading e-magazine, L’Internaute. An article portraying Halong Bay – a world natural heritage, was published in September in the Voyager (tourism) column of L’Internaute magazine. The article noted that apart from its thousands of charming islands and beautiful caves, Halong Bay is also home to a wide biodiversity that includes eco-systems like mangrove forests, coral reefs and tropical forests.

Dalat, capital of LamDongProvince, is located approximately 308km northeast of Ho Chi Minh City. At an elevation of 1,500m, Dalat bears the look of an Old French city. It was founded in 1897 when Doctor Alexandre Yersin recommended that the area be developed as a resort town. Dalat has many natural and artificial lakes such as Ho Xuan Huong, Than Tho, Da Thien, and Tuyen Lam bordered by lines of pine trees, which are a well-known feature of Dalat. A trip to Dalat is not complete until one goes to the Dalat Flower Gardens.

Two hundred domestic and foreign businesses have registered to take part in the first ever national rice festival slated for November 26-28 in the Mekong delta province of Hau Giang. The festival will be co-organised by the Vietnam Food Association in association with the Vietnam Southern Food Corporation, government agencies and the Mekong delta provinces. The three-day event, which expects to receive more than 3,000 visitors, will include rice symposiums and fairs, folk games and traditional music and art performances.
